Describes the blossoms and colour week by week, year by year, in a Zone 8 northern European shrub garden
Budding Week
Hamamelis is looking even finer and fuller in week 2009/10, and the regular hazels are also creating that "Japanese painting" look with their catkins all leaning parallel in the direction of the wind. Elsewhere budbreak has happened on shrubs such as Ribes sanguineum 'Atrorubens'. Others such as Lonicera x purpusii and Chimonanthus praecox, which have grudgingly put out a few blossoms over the past 10 days, fail to attract attention, because they could not yet be said to be truly full of flowers.
