Amelanchier Week

2008/17: This is the time when the wonderful pinkish white of the Amelanchier rotundifolia is the eye-catcher, and the first, purple azalea (R. russatum) next to our eastern neighbour is approaching its peak. The raspberry is fading a little, but the daffodils are still glorious. Hosta shoots are poking up, paeonia leaves are unfolding, the most advanced lily shoots are 30 cm above the ground, the roses have their first dark red leaves, and the Deutzia is in green leaf. Acer negundo has come into modest flower and the first leaf buds are emerging on Acer saccharinum. The yellow Mahonia flowers are at their best now.The Tulipa have shaken off their green cases and are showing their true colours. Taraxacum officinale is springing up as yellow flowers in the lawn, suddenly visible then vanishing again.
